The Super Softies are some of my favorite toys produced by Mego. They're large plush dolls with cloth outfits and removable gloves, boots, and capes just like their 8" World's Greatest Super-Heroes counterparts. Four different characters (Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, and The Lone Ranger) were released.

The Super Softies came in two different sizes - a 19" non-talking version and a 24" "talking" version with a pull string voice box.

The Lone Ranger doll comes with a plastic hat and two plastic guns. The 19" doll's accessories are smaller than the larger doll's accessories.

Some Super Softies boxes (19" and 24") do not have an acetate window. Other than missing the white printed border where the window would go, they are identical to the window boxes. I've heard these boxes were sold by Parkdale in Canada (which is where I got my solid box 24" Batman). There are no Parkdale markings on the box. So far, I've seen solid box 19" Batman, 24" Batman, and 19" Superman.

The doll that came with my 24" Batman solid box has a black mask instead of blue! The rest of the cowl and cape are identical in size, shape, and material to the standard release.

The doll also has an unusual red-and-yellow cloth belt. I assumed it was homemade, but I know of a solid box 19" batman doll with a similar belt. Coincidence, or something else? Are these home repairs, factory errors, an early test sample, or maybe a variant? Hopefully more turn up!
